Threads of Identity
“Threads of Identity” is a reflection on childhood memories and the influence of parents on personal development and identity. Through the exploration, generation and processing of subjective data, a fabric is created which entangles differences in perceptions of parental influence.
By quantifying complex interpersonal issues, limits of the digital spectrum are revealed. To what extent can emotions and relationships be rationalized? Can they be forced into the strictly defined spaces of digits?

Parental qualities are translated into the physical media of wool and chain to explore the connection and processing between the materials used and their symbolic representation. Wool embodies the nature of the artists* mother, while the chain represents the behaviors of the artists* father. When combined, a dynamic interplay occurs.

The emerging pattern is a composition derived from reflections on various questions through a questionnaire on parental responsibilities, filled out by both of the parents and the artist*. This opens up a space of communication and reflection on past relations. The project visually illustrates complexities of parent-child relationships and addresses childhood trauma. Through the interweaving of materials, patterns, and personal reflections. “Threads of Identity” invites viewers to recognize the nuanced nature of parental influence and the subjective aspects of self-perception.
