Noise Machine
In the fictional world of Noise Machine, the omnipresent hum of the machines effectively controls people’s attention. What initially manifests as an ordinary, everyday phenomenon gradually evolves into a sinister force that erodes the mind. However, what is the true nature of this seemingly innocuous buzzing?
The project Noise Machine represents an effort to transform the act of reading a narrative into an immersive experience. The dystopian short story is accompanied by illustrations, which were created through an hour-long collaboration between human input and algorithmic output with Midjourney. The story is enhanced by an audio player that invites the listener to engage with two associated soundscapes.
The player is constructed primarily from paper and cardboard materials to enhance the tactile experience with the book/paper medium. The bookmark functions as a control panel for audio playback and as a conventional marking device within the book. It is painted and linked to the Bare Conductive Touchboard through the use of conductive ink.
Throughout the entire creative process, a discourse was maintained between ChatGPT-4o and myself. This dialogue led to intriguing reflections on my part; it is ultimately up to the audience to determine whether this is recognizable in the result.
