Plastic Bridges

Plastic Bridges is speculative design project that raises a debate around the future of nature-culture networks. The story begins with a new kind of stromatolites found in the Mediterranean Sea by the fictitious explorer Lara Eldjárn. These geological formations describes an imminent period where these findings will evolve into continent-linking islands in a near future.

Sharing Lara’s blog with her supposed investigations and fake rocks as possible signals, this plotted hoax raises socio-political questions of environmental changes and sparks discussions and possibilities of how real or utopic this story would be.

The material probes are made out of sand, clay, bioplastic and plastic debris. Each shape and material composition bring little assumptions out. Macro pictures are supposed to provide analysis, given the overexposed “truth” of the image, whereas studies over maps show future geological configurations.
